Temple fillers in San Diego

Temple hollowing is one of the changes people notice in photographs without being able to name. The face reads as gaunt, or tired, or as though the eyes have become more prominent — and the actual change is a shallow depression at the side of the forehead that nobody looks at directly.

Temple filler restores volume to the hollows at the sides of the forehead, above the cheekbone and beside the eye. At Beauty Factory SD in San Diego it is used where temple hollowing makes the upper face look drawn and the brow appear to have dropped. Results are immediate and typically last twelve to eighteen months.

It is treated under dermal filler at Beauty Factory SD, and it is frequently the piece that makes other upper-face work look right.

What temple hollowing does to a face

The temple is a transition. It connects the forehead to the cheekbone and frames the outer edge of the eye. When the fat and muscle there thin — through age, significant weight loss, or simply genetics — the outer brow loses its underlying support and appears to sit lower, the bony rim around the eye becomes more visible, and the upper face narrows relative to the mid-face.

The overall effect is a face that looks drawn and older, and it is often mistaken for a problem with the eyes themselves.

What treating the temple changes

  • A less hollow, less skeletal contour at the side of the forehead

  • Better support under the outer third of the brow, which can lift it very slightly

  • A softer transition between forehead and cheekbone, so the face reads as continuous

  • Less prominence of the bony orbital rim beside the eye

  • A more even outline of the upper face in profile and in photographs

A note on safety

The temple contains significant blood vessels and nerves running in defined planes, and it is an area where injection technique matters more than product choice. It is treated slowly, usually with a blunt cannula, in a plane chosen deliberately.

This is worth stating plainly rather than glossing over. It is a routine treatment in trained hands and it is not one to have done cheaply or quickly.

Hyaluronic acid is used here for the same reason it is used in the lips: it can be dissolved if it needs to be.

What to expect

The treatment is quick — usually twenty to thirty minutes for both sides. Product is placed deep, and the amount required is generally modest relative to the visible change.

Mild swelling for a day or two is normal and bruising is possible. Judge the result at two weeks once the product has integrated.

When it is not the right treatment

If your brow position is the concern and the temple is not hollow, filler here will not help; brow position is more often a matter of muscle balance, and a small amount of neurotoxin addresses it.

Temple filling also does not treat crow’s feet, which are caused by muscle movement at the outer corner of the eye. Those two are frequently confused because they occupy adjacent territory.

Questions about temple fillers

What causes hollow temples?

Thinning of the fat and muscle at the side of the forehead. It happens with age, and it is more pronounced after significant weight loss or in people who are naturally lean. Some people simply have less temporal volume to begin with.

How long does temple filler last?

Typically twelve to eighteen months. The temple moves very little compared with the lower face, so filler placed there tends to be long-lasting.

Will temple filler lift my brow?

It can lift the outer third of the brow slightly, by restoring the support beneath it. It is not a brow lift. If brow position is the main concern, a small amount of neurotoxin usually addresses it more directly.

Is temple filler safe?

It is a routine treatment, and it is an anatomically demanding area with significant vessels and nerves. It is performed slowly, usually with a blunt cannula, and hyaluronic acid is used specifically because it can be dissolved if needed.

How much filler do temples need?

Generally a modest amount relative to the visible change, placed deep on both sides. The exact volume depends on how much hollowing is present and is decided at the consultation.
